KPA-inSupply Health-Market Test Project.
The Market test project which is a subgrant from inSupply Health aims to improve access to Family Planning for women through a viable pharmacy business model that offers convenient, discrete, and quality counseling and training on contraceptive products to customers, with a focus on self-injection of DMPA-SC. This partnership ensures that activities and operations are run within various counties such as; Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kericho, Kisii, Meru and Uasin Gishu counties. Therefore, all KPA Branches that fall within these counties are engaged accordingly in the project management and operations.
The project duration is expected to be three (3) years running from the year 2021 up to the year 2024
The key objectives of this partnership are:
- Build capacity of members through both in-person and online webinar trainings focused on National Guidelines on Advanced Family Planning addressing the gaps in service delivery.
- Support Supervision on the participating pharmacies trained on the Family Planning with a focus on accreditation and certification of the trainees.
- External meetings for dissemination of information on self-care.
- Participate in Policy formulation stakeholder delivery meetings.
- Develop and implement FP Champions/ambassadors program within KPA Membership
Key Highlights of the Project:
KPA participates as Co-Principal Investigator in the project research and implementation. We have a role to contribute to the intellectual content, direction, and key decisions that may affect execution of the research. The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association:
- Participates in the selection of the participating pharmacies with interest in stocking and expanding their FP and self-care services to clients
- Helps in capacity building and accreditation of the pharmaceutical technologists through various forums and media. Including working stakeholders to explore translation of the Pharmacists and pharmaceutical technologists curriculum to virtual/online learning package/CPD.
- Supports pharmacy-led demand and awareness creation activities including integrated outreaches to increase community awareness on provision of self-injection.
- Participates in meetings and forums convened by inSupply, sharing data, experiences and lessons learnt as part of the market test.
- Builds ambassadors within KPA membership to champion the self-care agenda.
- Does Support Supervision on participating pharmacies of the FP Trainees.
- Engages in external meetings for dissemination of information on self-care.
- Conducts webinars for members on FP topics that address the gaps in FP service delivery.
- Participates in Policy formulation stakeholder delivery meetings.
- Develops and implements FP Champions/ambassadors program within KPA Membership.
As a result of this partnership; several capacity building sessions are undertaken monthly through online webinars on topics that address the gaps in practice. A number of in-person 5 day trainings have also been conducted to over 30 members with a view to provide them with the MoH Certification on provision of Advanced Family Planning services. We have also developed a family planning Champions/ Ambassadors fora who are able to develop relevant/key messages on Family planning delivered to the general Kenyan public with the aim of enhancing access to information and thus increased access of FP amongst women in Kenya.
